United Way at the Minnesota Wild – November 20, 2009
The ice was hot on Friday, November 20 as United Way partnered with the Minnesota Wild and Xcel Energy to exhibit how to LIVE UNITED in 2009 as the Wild took on the New York Islanders. Days before on the Wild website and at the game itself, fans were encouraged to sign up for a chance to participate in our on-ice intermission activity at the game. The participants worked together in a game that demonstrated the importance of keeping families warm, safe and fed this holiday season. Numerous messages were spread throughout the evening and each of the fans walked away with an Emerging Artists Presented by Emerging Leaders CD. Thanks to everyone who participated and came out to watch the rousing game!

Walk to End Hunger – November 26, 2009
Hundreds of people joined us on Thanksgiving morning at the Mall of America to help end hunger and give back before they gave thanks with a 5K walk. More details and results coming soon!
Hunger Forum – November 10, 2009
What an amazing event! Nearly 300 people came together at General Mills to discuss the issue of hunger in our community.
The evening began with interactive exhibits which included a virtual tour of a local foodshelf.
The forum continued with conversations between leaders and the public about hunger and what is needed to help solve the problem. We’re continuing the conversations online.

WCCO TV Phone bank – October 22, 2009
Thanks to everyone who checked out the story on WCCO-TV about domestic violence in our community. If you missed it, see the video here. We’re especially grateful to our fabulous phone bank volunteer advocates (see left), who were able to direct 16 callers to the help they needed.
The feature and phone bank also served to educate our community about the prevalance of domestic abuse in the area, how to support United Way’s work around domestic violence and where people can go for help if they’ve experienced abuse. Learn more and find out how you can make a difference.

LIVE UNITED Community Celebration – September 9, 2009
Peavey Plaza was a sweet place to be on September 9 as United Way demonstrated how everyone can LIVE UNITED. The community was encouraged to bring preschool supplies to pack the bus, wear their LIVE UNITED T-shirt or donate $5 to get a FREE slice of Bakers Square pie and Kemps ice cream. Guests enjoyed a giant game of Memory to win T-shirts, a motorcade of Victory Motorcycles that brought in our speakers, and live music from the Maeflies, Romantica and Tim Mahoney who debuted a new song written just for United Way. Nearly 1,000 people rocked the plaza over their lunch break, thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy the day!

Take Charge of your Health Yoga – August 22, 2009
Ever wondered what the health benefits are from yoga? That’s one question that numerous United Way supporters asked and it was answered at a special beginner yoga session put on my One Yoga Studio in Uptown Minneapolis on Saturday, August 22. Thank you to everyone who participated, and congratulations to our drawing winners Mavis and Thelma! We look forward to creating additional health related events in the future. United Way at the Twins – July 29, 2009
Dr. Suess, The Bearenstein Bears, Little Golden Books, oh my! The Twins game on July 29 was a great venue to host a book drive in support of our Reading By Third Grade goal area. Volunteers manned the gates with bins, gift bags and bracelets. The first 1,000 people who donated a book or cash received a gift bag and the first 3,000 kids received a bracelet. Thanks to the generosity of our community we collected nearly 1,000 books and almost $700 that will help kids learn to read. See pictures from the day. LIVE UNITED Kick-off – June 26, 2009
It was a day of FUN-draising! Thanks to you the representatives raised well over $9,000 in 9 hours—they raised more than $14,000, which will move at least three families out of a shelter and into stable housing.* Our representatives got creative to raise their portion of $9,000—whether it was raffling off the use of their car, encouraging our Text to Give initiative, soliciting family and friends to help, pulling together a last minute benefit rock show, playing a small concert for the lunch crowd at the IDS Center, or buying their colleagues lunch and cocktails—we’re grateful to have these fabulous supporters working with us!
